Serelo Hill or better known as Mount Jempol or called Telunjuk Hill, is about 900 meters above sea level.
Serelo Hill is located in Warai Village, South Merapi District, Lahat Regency – South Sumatra, 276 km from Palembang.
Serelo Hill is one of the landmarks and pride of the Lahat community. Local residents usually call this tourist spot Telunjuk Hill, because of the shape of the peak which is similar to a forefinger sticking out into the sky.
The local people also believe that the hill reminds us that God is in a higher position, so we must stay grounded.
The charm of the hill is so amazing, so many climbers from outside the area are curious to see its real shape up close.
Around the hill, which is one part of the hill line, is surrounded by clear rivers, making the scenery around the hill even more enchanting. The lower part of the hill is often used as a camping or recreation area.
But, extra caution is needed if you want to camp on this hill because the wind that hits this hill is strong enough to be able to fly the tent.
To enjoy a beautiful panoramic view from the top of this hill is not an easy matter, because the distance to the climb is far, slippery, and steep where the climbing angle can reach up to 75 degrees.
In addition, Serelo Hill is a rocky hill that is only overgrown by bushes similar to thatch.
Around this hillside, there is a clear spring (185 m).
In addition, there is also a beautiful view in the form of a collection of smooth graffiti rocks which is located at the bottom of the peak cliff.
In this area, there is also the Elephant Warring School which is located at the foot of Serelo Hill.
This school is a training place for elephants to be tame so that they can be used to facilitate jobs, especially those that require a large amount of energy, such as transporting objects that are difficult for humans to lift alone.
At least about 40 elephants have been tamed in this place.
However, not all elephants can perform attractions and interact with visitors. You can take advantage of the opportunity to take pictures with the elephants or we can also take a walk to enjoy the natural scenery by riding an elephant.
In an area of 210 hectares, you can also add to your knowledge because there are some native Indonesian flora and fauna here.
For example puspa (Schima walichii), sungkai (Peronema canesem) and other species that grow in secondary forests. While the types of fauna that live in Serelo Hill are long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), crooked (Macaca sp.), Mouse deer (Trangulu sp.), Deer (Cervus sp.), Deer (Muntiacus m peaks), hog deer (Sus sp. ) and various types of birds and partridge.
At night, from the top of Serelo Hill, you can see the sparkling lights of the residents’ houses like a cluster of stars scattered on the earth.
The warm glint of sunlight in the morning with its golden color and the green background display of trees and other hills such as the Kelingking Hill, the Virgin Hill, and the Tikus Hill, makes the photo look so exotic.
