Various art performances and traditional ceremonies always are featured during the Sentani Lake Festival in the Khalkhote area of East Sentani, Papua.
Among the performances during the event, which was included in the Ministry of Tourism’s national calendar, are traditional dances on boats, Papuan war dances, and the ceremonial inauguration of ondoafi, or Sentani tribal heads.
Various traditional dishes from various parts of the province will also be available.
The tourism ministry supports the event because it is important to preserve the local culture and promote creativity among the people living in the area surrounding Lake Sentani.
There are three main points on the agenda for the Sentani Lake Festival, aside from the main carnival, which are cultural performances, an artwork exhibition, and tours.
Esthy, the party from the tourism ministry said, “All parties have joined to add more festivities to the program, regardless of their origins, religions, or tribal affiliations.”
She added that the event is expected to bring great benefits to the people of Papua.
And also tourism can also boost the economy in the area and reduce the need for people to move from the regions to major cities to pursue job opportunities.
Tourism Minister said that in addition to the world-renowned Raja Ampat and the snow-topped Jayawijaya Mountain, the Sentani Lake Festival is another of Papua’s beautiful attractions.
“Sentani offers beautiful views and it is also attractive, congratulations and more success for the people of Jayapura,” he said.
