At a Dutch zoo, a couple of gay penguins stole eggs from lesbian penguins in hopes of hatching chicks and having their own offspring.
Daily Mail writes about this.
In November last year, the same pair stole one egg from other penguins, but unfortunately no chick hatched from it, and the couple remained childless.
They stole a whole nest of eggs this year.
Now the gay penguins take turns sitting on the eggs to hatch them, while the second male of the pair gets food.
Amersfoort zoo keeper Sander Drost says that this time the chicks will not be born either, because the eggs of a same-sex pair of female penguins were unlikely to be fertilized.
According to zoologist Mark Belt, homosexuality is widespread among these birds in captivity.
Some same-sex couples even manage to hatch other bird’s eggs. Such a case was recorded at the aquarium in Spain this summer.
