In South Tapanuli, there is Lake Siais which looks calm and beautiful. The lake is decorated with beautiful colorful plants. People said that Lake Siais is the ‘sister’ of Lake Toba.
Lake Siais has an area of 4,500 hectares. Having a charm that is no less beautiful than Lake Toba, this lake is not widely known by tourists. Lake Siais is located in Rianiate Village, West Angkola District, South Tapanuli Regency, about 40 km from Padang Sidempuan City via Batang Toru.
This lake is the second-largest in North Sumatra after Lake Toba. Being on Lake Siais, a traveler will be spoiled with views of the hills and vast forests that surround the lake. Lake Siais is often used as a Scout Camp in South Tapanuli Regency.
Interestingly, a traveler who stops here will be spoiled with clear lake water. Even if you are lucky, you can see Jurung fish that are sacred to local people. Jurung fish are sacred fish that exist in Rianiate Village and have been around for decades. This fish comes from a small river that empties into Lake Siais.
Jurung fish are sacred by a Shaykh who lives in Rianiate Village. He built a mosque in this village. Right behind the mosque, there are thousands of jurung fish. According to myth, you should never fish and eat this fish if you don’t want to get hurt. Visitors can only feed fish with bread. Thousands of jurung fish are one of the tourist attractions targeted by tourists who come.
