The Banda Aceh City Government continues to beautify this beach. A number of infrastructures were built, one of which is Ulee Lheue Park as a culinary park. To entering the Ulee Lheue beach, you don’t have to pay a fee, because this beach is free for visitors.
Next to Ulee Lheue Beach, stands the Baiturrahim Mosque which was a silent witness to the 2004 Aceh Tsunami. When the tsunami waves nearly flattened the four kampongs (villages) around the Baiturrahim Mosque, but this mosque was only slightly damaged.
About 250 meters in front of the Baiturrahim Mosque, there is the 2004 Aceh Tsunami Mass Grave. There are about 14 thousand victims who were buried in this mass grave.
How to Get There?
Ulee Lheue Beach is located in Meuraxa District and is about 15 minutes drive from Baiturrahman Grand Mosque. Travelers can either ride a private vehicle or rented one in order to reach the beach, actually.
Some local transportation services are also available. You can go using a private vehicle or the Trans Koetaradja bus route corridor 2B.
If using the Trans Koetaradja, you can get off at the bus stop in front of the Baiturrahim Mosque or right at the gate of Ulee Lheue Harbor.
