A resident of the Indian city of Jaggayapeta returned home the next day after her relatives believed that she died of COVID-19 and mistakenly cremated another person’s body.
A 75-year-old woman named Girijamma contracted a coronavirus infection and was admitted to the hospital on May 12, 2021.
Then, on May 15 her husband Gaddayya went to visit her.
The woman wasn’t in the hospital bed, and the hospital staff told the man that she had been transferred to another place.
Gaddayya checked all departments, and the hospital staff advised him to go to the morgue. In the morgue, the Indian saw the body of a woman who looked like his wife.
He informed the hospital staff about this, and they gave him the corpse and wrote out a death certificate in the name of Girijamma.
The family took the body home.
The son of Girijamma and Gaddayya passed away from COVID-19 on May 23, and the grieving man organized a joint funeral for them with cremation on June 1.
But the next day Girijamma returned home.
Seeing her, Gaddayya and other relatives were shocked. It turned out that all this time she was in the hospital and wondered why no one came to visit her.
Now an elderly couple mourns their son who died of illness.
