In commemorating the 25th National Elderly Day (HLUN), the Social Service (Dissos) together with the Indragiri Hilir Milad Committee celebrated with approximately 50 elderly people, Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
Centered at the Shelter House, the HLUN celebration was filled with social services in the form of providing treatment and basic necessities to the elderly who were present.
The head of the Indragiri Hilir Social Service, HM Afrin, explained that several series of activities were carried out today to honor and respect the elderly.
“In accordance with our theme today is ‘Elderly Happy with Family’, so this elderly commemoration moment is to educate the public, especially to families with elderly people to be friendly and polite to families,” he explained.
Arifin added, in addition to meeting the needs of the elderly, a friendly and polite attitude and respect, especially to those who are old, need to be instilled in the family.
“So at this commemoration moment, we want to socialize to the community how families must be patient and friendly to the elderly so that the elderly are happy with their families,” he said.
Meanwhile, in his speech, the Regent Indragiri Hilir said, the Ministry of Home Affairs through the wire, instructed all Governors, Regents/Mayors to carry out the HLUN warning with a series of activities, including Free Elderly Health Checks, Visits to Nursing Homes, and Social Service Activities, which adjusted to the conditions of each region from May 29 to June 30, 2021.
“For this reason, I direct the Social Service as the leading sector of the Social Welfare Program to prepare the National Elderly Day Commemoration in a coordinated manner, by involving OPD, mass organizations and related NGOs, as well as carrying out the 56th Milad activities,” said the Regent.
This activity was explained by the Regent as a form of appreciation and gratitude, to the elderly, and all parents, for their services, sacrifices, and affection in protecting, praising, and glorifying the dignity and worth of their children.
“As the old saying goes: Parent’s love goes all the way, children’s love goes along the pole,” explained the number 1 person in Indragiri Hilir.
In the event, the Regent of Indragiri Hilir presented an award to Masri and Yuliana Daud who are social activists in Indragiri Hilir district, the Regent also handed over a BPJS card for the elderly at the Pondok Bhakti Lansia Panti Foundation.
Also attending the event was the Head of K3S Zulaikhah Wardan, Forkopimda, related OPD, and the elderly both from the Pondok Bhakti Elderly Foundation and non-Panti orphanages.
Meanwhile, based on the 2020 Population Census, in Indragiri Hilir, the number of people aged between 54-75 years is 71,048, or 10.84 percent of the total population of 654,909 people.
Referring to Law Number 13 of 1998 concerning the Welfare of the Elderly, it is determined that the age of the elderly is 60 years and over.
