Tampang Allo Cave Tombs is a cave that has been converted as a burial. Surrounded by the peaceful rice paddy and a maze of cliffs, Tampang Allo is a large naturally formed cave in Tana Toraja that was once the gravesite for the ancient Toraja people.
Inside the cave, you will feel the creepy ambiance with dozens of coffins stacked in crevices of the cave, several carved wooden figures called Tau Tau or skulls, and piles of bones scattered from the entrance throughout the cave.

Even though the place is a cemetery, this cave is worthy of your visit while on vacation in South Sulawesi.
In the cave area, you can find specially made statues or tao-tao. In the cave there are also hundreds of erong or coffins of people who have been buried there.
Previously, the cave was just an ordinary Natural Cave, but at that time according to the story of their ancestor, the ruler of Sangalla, Puang Menturino, and his wife Rangga Bulaan chose Tampang Allo Cave as their burial place, if they later died.
According to the legend of the people in Tampang Allo, Rangga Bulaan died first and his body was placed in the Tampang Allo cave. Meanwhile, Sang Puang Manturino at the time of his death was placed at the Losso cemetery not far from Tampang Allo.
Somehow, Sang Puang’s Erong (animal-shaped coffin) turned out to be empty. While his body has been united with his wife’s body in Tampang Allo.
Of course, this story thrills all local residents, so until now, the local people are very preserving the cave.
