Since 2010, Okura Village has been inaugurated as a tourist village in Riau Province.
The indigenous Malay-Riau tribe still live in houses on stilts along the Siak River. Uniquely, you can go to this village by road or by river from Sungai Duku Harbor.
Here, you can enjoy a beautiful rural atmosphere and away from the hustle and bustle of Pekanbaru City.
In addition, you can do various activities, such as walking along the river, seeing the life of the indigenous people of Okura Village, cycling between sago palms, and horse riding.
Okura Village is located in Rumbai District, Pekanbaru City, Riau. The distance is not so far from the center of Pekanbaru City.
It only takes about 30 minutes to travel by land using two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles. If you go through the river route, the travel time takes us around 1 hour by going along the Duku River Harbor.
The rural environment is surrounded by green oil palm plantations, making the atmosphere feel calm and peaceful and free from the noise of vehicles. The surrounding air also feels cool, making anyone feel at home for long.
More than that, typical rural scenery can also be found here through the daily life of the people who still use native Malay as a means of communication, see village children playing traditional games such as tops or practicing Silat Pangean, enjoying typical Malay culinary delights, and watching various performing arts and traditional ceremonies.
Visiting Okura Village is not only for the eyes to be spoiled by the beauty of nature, but also to enjoy various exciting activities, either alone or in the company of the surrounding community.
Those who like fishing can rent a boat from the fishermen to cross the river. Fish from fishing can be brought home or cooked by yourself while camping on site. You can also ask friendly villagers to help cook it.
There is also a bicycle rental place for tourists who want to go on an adventure through the groves of sago palms and palm trees, archery games, and horse riding activities that provide their own fun.
Although traditional games are the main attraction, this village also offers several types of modern games such as swimming, downhill, airsoft gun, paintball, and motocross which of course provide a separate place so as not to disturb the peaceful village atmosphere.
For those who like to act in front of the camera, a contemporary tourist attraction is available in the form of a flower garden called the “Okura Dream Flower Park”. The park, which occupies an area of 2 hectares, is cultivated in a cooperative manner by the community which is commanded by the youth.
In the Okura Dream Flower Garden, various types of flower plants are planted in such a way, some of which are even arranged so that they form unique and attractive ornaments.
To be even more interesting, tourists can visit this Tourism Village at low cost, except for renting canoes, bicycles, horses or using the services of residents who are always friendly in welcoming visitors who come.
