Udang Merah Lake is one of the unique and sacred tourist destinations in Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

Udang Merah Lake is a sacred lake by local residents. It is said that those who bring red shrimp from this lake to home, will die or get hurt.
This lake is indeed very famous for its mystical stories, which with this story it becomes a sacred place.
In addition, the origin of the shrimp in this place is not clear. The lake is sacred because it’s believed to be a soldier of the Buton’s King who received a curse because of their mistakes. So, this story strengthens the people’s beliefs about the mystical story of this lake.
According to local people’s beliefs, the red prawns in this lake were the sultan’s soldiers who were cursed.
So that people do not want to take shrimp in this place.
This place also prohibits visitors from swimming or just soaking your body in the middle of the lake. The shrimp in this place is very large, even in the hundreds.
This red shrimp is also visible even though we don’t enter it because the water is clear.
Although it cannot be taken home or collected, visitors can still hold it. So that you don’t come to this place in vain.

Around the Udang Merah Lake, there are also lots of mangrove trees. The tree has strong roots that go into the lake. Of course, it makes the panorama in this place even shadier and looks beautiful.
Not only mangrove trees, but this place also contains various plants or other typical forest trees. Among them are shrubs, which will feel the atmosphere of the middle of the forest.
This lake is also still connected to Koguna beach. This is evident if the volume of this lake will recede if the seawater is also receding which makes mangrove tree roots clearly visible above the lake surface.
However, if the seawater is high, the volume of the water in the lake also rises. In addition, this lake is a lake whose water is brackish. The lake is also relatively large for the size of the lake, which is about 70 x 25 meters.

Udang Merah Lake is located in a village in the Buton district, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The village has the name Mopano, which is part of the South Lasalimu sub-district. To get to this place you must have an adequate vehicle. This is because the road is difficult to access, which is a sharp incline of winding hills.
The route itself starts from the center of the Buton district, precisely at the Wajo market. Then you have to go to Koguna beach.
The distance you have traveled is quite long, namely 55 km, the journey takes about 1 hour, sometimes even up to one hour and thirty minutes.
