Riau Province and Riau Islands Province (Kepri) are two autonomous regions that have very close relations. The two regions, which were formerly one province, also have abundant natural resource potential and are interrelated.
Riau with its agricultural natural potential and Riau Islands with its maritime potential. These two things later became the reason for the cooperation between the two regions.
Located at Lagoy Resort, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands on Friday, July 9, 2021, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Riau Provincial Government and the Riau Islands Provincial Government.
The Cooperation Agreement in regional development was directly signed by the Governor of Riau, H. Syamsuar from the Riau Provincial Government.
While the Riau Islands Provincial Government was signed by the Riau Islands Provincial Secretary Dr. Ir Lamidi MM.
In his remarks before the signing of the MoU, Syamsuar said the importance of cooperation between local governments as a form of effort to maximize development, public services and improve people’s welfare. In addition, inter-regional cooperation is also a mandate of the regional autonomy law.
“We are here with one common hope, which is to encourage the realization of accelerated development, improvement of public services, and public welfare in both provinces through a cooperative approach based on the principles of synergy, mutual benefit, and complementarity,” said Syamsuar.
Furthermore, the Governor of Riau conveyed several proposals for cooperation with the Riau Islands Provincial Government, including the tourism and creative economy sectors, transportation, health, education, fisheries, and border area management.
The same thing was conveyed by the Riau Islands Governor, in this case, being read by the Riau Islands Regional Secretary. It is said that the cooperation established between the two regions will greatly assist in the implementation of effective and efficient regional development.
In particular, the Governor also reminded the close historical relationship between the two provinces and the potential linkage of abundant natural resources.
