The Dirgantara Statue or commonly called the Pancoran Statue is an iconic and historic statue in Indonesia that is easy to find when you are in Jakarta, because of its strategic location, on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Menteng Dalam, Pancoran District, South Jakarta City, the Special Capital Region of Jakarta.
President Sukarno was the person behind the idea to create this statue. He requested that the statue featuring the power of Indonesia in the aerospace industry by relying on the nature of honesty, brave, and passion of the Indonesian nation.
This statue depicts a human space, which means that illustrates the spirit of the Indonesian people to conquer the skies. Therefore, no wonder if the statue was placed in the Pancoran, South Jakarta which is not far from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport and the former headquarters of the Indonesian Air Force.
He also donates from his own by selling his personal car for IDR 1 million at the time. The total cost of making the Dirgantara statue reached IDR 12 million.
The Pancoran statue rises about 27 meters high. It is made of bronze with a fantastic weight of up to 11 tons.
This statue looks very beautiful and handsome. Actually, this statue has the original name the Dirgantara Statue. However, nowadays this statue is often called the Pancoran Statue because it is located at the Pancoran intersection.
