Chinese authorities in Inner Mongolia issued a health alert after a patient infected with bubonic plague died.
Local media China People’s Daily said the local government had set 3 alerts regarding the prevention and transmission of the bubonic plague until the end of 2020.
The patient reportedly died after experiencing multiple organ failure. This is the second confirmed death from the bubonic plague in China this year.
Quoted from CNN, the patient is a resident of Suji Xincun Village, Damao Banner District. In order to avoid the spread and transmission of the bubonic plague, the authorities immediately isolated Suji Xincun Village. In addition, health officials also ordered cleaning and disinfection of all houses and buildings in the village.
There are around nine villagers who have had close contact with the deceased patient and 26 other residents who have been in contact have undergone self-quarantine.
The bubonic plague once caused the Black Death pandemic which killed about 50 million people in Europe from contracting bubonic during the Middle Ages. This disease causes pain, swollen lymph nodes, as well as fever, chills, and cough.
