The big explosion that rocked Beirut, Lebanon cost a fantastic loss.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun said the damage caused by the explosion was more than USD 15 billion.
Reported by AFP on Wednesday (12 August 2020), Aoun mentioned the statement in a phone call with Spanish King Felipe.
“The initial estimate of the losses suffered after the explosion at the port was USD 15 billion,” said Aoun.
As is known, the devastating explosion that rocked Lebanon occurred on Tuesday (4 August).
Great demonstrations took place in Lebanon after the big explosion that rocked Beirut.
The crowd took to the streets and protested that the explosion had left them homeless.
Reporting from AFP, a demonstration was held on Saturday (8 August), in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The crowd’s anger was mounting because the deadly explosion left hundreds of thousands homeless.
In the aftermath of this action, the Lebanese Information Minister Manal Abdel Samad resigned from his post.
This was done after thousands of Lebanese citizens staged demonstrations demanding regime change following the explosion in Beirut.
Not only that, the Prime Minister (PM) of Lebanon Saad al-Hariri also resigned from his post, giving in to the demands of the demonstrators.
Demonstrators have continued to hold demonstrations for nearly two weeks.
