For many times, Thomas Mueller became a Barcelona nightmare. The Bayern Munich player was able to tear the LaLiga giant goal in the Champions League.
Mueller became the star of Bayern’s sensational victory over Barcelona with a score of 8-2, at the Estadio da Luz in the Champions League quarter-final match on Saturday, August 15 2020 in the early morning, local time.
In that fierce match, Mueller scored two goals against Barcelona, in the 4th and 31st minutes. Then, the winning goal for Germany’s representatives was scored by Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandowski, and two goals from Philippe Coutinho. The two Barcelona goals came from David Alaba’s suicide and one goal from Luis Suarez.
For Mueller, two goals against Barcelona made a personal record. The 30-year-old player has scored 6 goals against Barcelona, during their second meeting in the Champions League. The German player was the first person to break into Barcelona’s goal of half a dozen. He passed the record of Andriy Shevchenko, who was only able to break Barcelona’s goal five times in the Champions League.
“Mueller deserves to get the title Man of the Match. He was the one who controls our pressure, but I also have to praise the performance of the whole team, who can maintain the intensity for 90 minutes,” said Bayern coach, Hans-Dieter Flick, on the official UEFA website.
For this season, Mueller has made 4 goals in the Champions League. Total, Mueller already has 46 goals in that event.
Bayern was able to make their way to the semifinals of the Champions League. Next, they are just waiting for the winners of Manchester City vs Lyon, to fight for the final ticket.
