A two-year-old has died after a tragic fall from a window in a ninth-floor flat. The young boy, fell to his death from an upper-level window in the Charles Gardner Court building in Shoreditch, east London on Thursday at around 4 pm.
Since the fatal plunge, which has shaken the community, residents have spoken out about the ‘very dangerous’ design of the windows, which are designed to unlatch outwards from the bottom of the frame with no restriction on how far they open.
Saddened residents laid bouquets of flowers with tributes to the boy, placing them just metres away from the spot where he fell.
Mrs. Kimberly-Koka is one of the building’s residents that has brought the safety of the windows into question and compared the situation to the safety failings of Grenfell Tower, which took the lives of 72 people in 2017 when flammable cladding led to the spreading of a massive fire throughout the building.
Hackney Council has promised to collaborate with police to investigate the death.
