The old man was assisted at the scene by a police officer due to a leg injury, before being taken to the local hospital for treatment.
The Lodi Police Department said: ‘Police officer Urrea risked his own life to save others and his actions prevented today’s tragedy.
“We are very proud of Officer Erica Urrea and his heroism.”
