French supermarket chain Carrefour in Brazil has drawn criticism after covering the bodies of its employees with cardboard boxes and umbrellas.
Meanwhile, the supermarket remains open. After the incident went viral on social media, the company apologized.
The incident was said to have occurred on Friday (14 August).
Thanks to uploads on social media, this case went viral and only caught the public’s attention this week.
A picture shows Santos’s body lying in the hallway, he is covered with a cardboard box and a large green umbrella.
Quoted from AFP, Carrefour called the man who died named Moises Santos.
He died of a heart attack. Santos works in marketing or sales.
Carrefour said Santos had received first aid after the attack.
“Carrefour apologizes for the wrong way to deal with the sad and unexpected death.
“The company made the mistake of not closing shop immediately after the incident,” Carrefour said in a statement.
The victim’s wife said that her husband’s name was not Moises Santos, but Manoel Moises Cavalcante.
“I was furious. It turns out that humans are worthless. People only care about money,” his wife told the G1 news site.
In 2018, Carrefour experienced another scandal in Brazil.
At that time, a security guard beat a dog to death inside a shop in Sao Paulo.
The incident also drew protests on social media.
