A black man was seriously injured after being shot several times by police in Wisconsin, United States (US).
This incident sparked protests from the public who gathered at the scene of the shooting.
As reported by Reuters on Monday (24 August 2020), the shooting took place on Sunday (23 August) afternoon, at around 17.00 local time.
The incident took place in the town of Kenosha when the police responded to a report about a “domestic incident”.
A video circulating on social media quoted by US media shows a man walking towards a car followed by two policemen.
Moments later, one of the policemen opened fire on the man, just as he was opening the car door. The sound of a number of shots was heard at the location.
A statement released by the Kenosha Police said the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by the police.
However, there was no further explanation regarding the chronology of the shooting and what caused the police to open fire on the victim.
The police only said that the shooting would be further investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
