US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Israel on Monday to embark on a five-day tour of the Middle East.
This tour focuses on normalizing Israel’s relations with the UAE and encouraging other Arab countries to follow suit.
Pompeo, wearing a mask in the colors of the US flag, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In addition in the coming days also visited Sudan, Bahrain and the UAE, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Washington and its close ally Israel hope the Jewish state can soon normalize relations with other regional states.
In occupied Jerusalem, Pompeo and Netanyahu will discuss “regional security issues related to Iran’s malign influence” and
“building and deepening Israeli relations in the region,” said the State Department.
Netanyahu said on Sunday that he and Pompeo would talk about “expanding the circle of peace in our region.
We are working for peace with more countries, and I think there will be more – and in the not too distant future. “
Israel previously only signed peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan.
President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan previously ignored cooperation between Israel and Arab countries which, like Israel, even see Iran as their main enemy.
Donald Trump indirectly accuses Iran of instigating regional conflict.
