A six year old girl died and several of her family members were seriously injured.
The unfortunate incident occurred when their motorbike hit the back of a truck in Parit Haji Taib 2 Village in Bagan Serai on August 25.
According to Harian Metro, the incident at 3:00 p.m. was believed to have been the result of thick smoke from the burning rice fields so that the rider lost control of the motorbike.
Kerian District Police Chief Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the girl was identified as Auni Marissa Norman who died at the scene while her parents, Siti Fauziah Abdul Kairi, 34 and Mohamad Hafiz Mohd Adli, 21, were seriously injured.
Meanwhile, Marissa Norman’s one-year-old sister, Muhammad Faiz Akmal Norman, survived and was not injured.
Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob added that at the time of the incident, the family was on the way from the village route to Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth.
Police found that the accident occurred when a 27-year-old truck driver stopped his vehicle at the site because another truck stopped in front of him.
As a result of the collision, the victim sitting in the front died while a family member on a Yamaha LC 135 motorbike suffered severe head injuries and is currently being treated at Taiping Hospital.
The victim’s body was taken to Parit Buntar Hospital for an autopsy. No arrests were made and the case is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the 1987 Road Transport Act.
