Facebook said it had shared data with United Nations (UN) investigators aimed at investigating international crimes cases in Myanmar.
This sharing of data comes after the main investigator said Facebook had withheld the evidence.
Reported by detiKINET from Reuters, Facebook representatives said that they had provided data on the Independent Investigative Mechanism on Myanmar (IIMM) from various Pages and accounts related to Myanmar’s military activities.
In 2018 accounts and Pages linked to the Myanmar military were removed to stop hate speech against Rohingya Muslims.
Myanmar is facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over a military crackdown on the Rohingya in 2017.
This has forced 73,000 Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh.
However, Myanmar denies committing genocide and says its forces carried out legitimate operations against militant groups who attacked police posts.
The UN Human Rights Council created the IIMM in 2018 to collect evidence of international crimes in Myanmar.
