The Virtual Online Museum of Art (VOMA) will open in early September, by prioritizing experiences through digital space.
The opening of this museum is a follow-up to the Covid-19 pandemic situation which has forced the closure of public spaces around the world since the beginning of the year, including museums.
Where the closure of public spaces makes museums hold virtual tours and exhibitions as a substitute.
As reported by Lonely Planet, VOMA is also the world’s first interactive virtual museum, with classic and contemporary works from around the world.
All content in it is provided and can be viewed free of charge.
Later, the collection in this virtual museum is the result of curation by Lee Cavaliere who also serves as Director of VOMA.
The collection was drawn from a number of well-known institutions such as the Hermitage Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MOMA) New York.
Not only that, one of the art galleries within this virtual museum will have an exhibition that explores human relationships.
Others will feature the “Degenerate Art Show,” a re-creation of the 1937 Nazi exhibition as part of an ongoing effort to show how art can be used as a tool of oppression.
The museum will also focus on newcomers, with Kenyan-British artist Phoebe Boswell.
Apart from highlighting artwork, VOMA will reportedly also rely on a crew of architects, CGI designers, gamers and curators to collaborate computer graphics with game interactivity in an effort to present an authentic, real-life gallery experience.
Each work is displayed in high resolution and is presented with related descriptions and reference material.
The VOMA virtual museum is scheduled to open on September 4.
