Ecuador’s grandparents, who have been married for 79 years, set a record as the oldest married couple in the world. The combined age of the two reached 214 years.
As reported by CNN, Monday (31 August 2020), Julio Cesar Mora is now 110 years old and his wife, Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros, will be 105 years old in October.
The two of them are the oldest married couple in the world, with a combined age of 214 years and 358 days.
Guinness World Records endorses the record and declares the couple to be a married couple who are still alive in the world.
Mora is known to have been born on March 10, 1910, and Quinteros was born on October 16, 1915.
According to a Guinness World Records statement, the two met during school holidays and became friends.
About 7 years of friends, the two were married on February 7, 1941.
The marriage was held in secret with the godparents and close friends of the two because their family did not approve.
Mora and Quinteros say their family didn’t get along at first, but they were able to unite their family years later.
“Family unity under the rules of love, mutual respect, honest endeavors and proper education based on family values are the keys to healthy coexistence,” stated Mora and Quinteros.
Mora and Quinteros worked as teachers until they retired. The couple has five children, all of whom graduated from college.
Their extended family consists of 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 grandchildren. Mora and Quinteros’ oldest child has died at the age of 58.
