It was fun reviewing the mainboard like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but I can’t remember how excited I felt the last time I came across the phone when the Z fold appeared on my door this morning. After spending a little time with the original Galaxy Fold last year (after which I overheard my friend Michael Fisher singing his praises throughout the year), I eagerly got a chance to drive the car every day.
Unfortunately, this review unit only comes to me as a two-week loan, so I should not allow myself to be comfortable with it, lest I be able to justify its value of $ 2,000. Let me start thinking about it. But in the hours since its arrival, the myriad of design improvements of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 at the original turning point has made me very optimistic about the future of folding.
It’s hard to say what product packaging looks “premium”, but the Z Guna 2 is great. The top of the box has a cover that displays Samsung’s new Z brand in folds starting with the Z flip, and underneath it is a split package that opens from the center, revealing a small leaf that lets you Welcomes into the “new mobile era”.
Deep in the box, you also get a USB C-to-C cable, along with a 25W fast charging brick and a brochure featuring Samsung’s Z Premier Concierge service (which would have entered premium perks to Z2 owners like Michelin pre imaged food Is) explain. And it is delivered to your door, along with a one-year membership to Club core and FoundersCard. It’s a bit like what you get with premium credits, like the Amex Centurion, and it speaks to the site of Samsung’s fold as a luxury product – though I’d be surprised if they could lower the price of Benjamin Or two of the total price for those allowances.
The phone is wrapped in a plastic sticker, with some care instructions; That is, do not press hard on the internal screen or front camera, do not try to turn off the phone with an object caught between the screens, and do not wet the phone too much (because it is not IP-certified).
Oh, and do not remove factory-installed screen protectors. I did it anyway.
We’ve already written a lot about the specs and features of Z Fold 2, but it’s good to finally be able to comment on the phone on its hardware. This is a massive improvement over the original Galaxy fold in almost every useful way. The hinge is much stronger and firmer than the previous generation, and it retains its position at almost any angle. This means that you can use the fold as a small laptop, or act as its stand when taking pictures.
The new screens also look great, thanks in large part to the significantly lower bezels on the cover screen, and the shrinking of the ultra-wide aperture camera aperture that turns into a hole on the internal display – both a very welcome improvement. Switching between the indoor display and the cover also means a transition between 60 and 120 Hz, which can be a bit annoying if you pay full attention but don’t really bother me.
