Allegations of suicide of a prospective specialist doctor in Surabaya have yet to show a clear light.
Meanwhile, the tradition of bullying and seniority among junior doctors is getting more and more spotlight.
The Chancellor of Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Prof. Moh Nasih said that the alleged suicide case which is currently being discussed is being handled by Dr. Soetomo Hospital, where the deceased studied.
His party has also deployed a team to follow up.
Meanwhile, a police officer from the Surabaya Police, AKBP Sudamiran also has not commented on the case.
“There were no reports, I checked there were no reports,” said AKBP Sudamiran.
Junior doctors often complain about assignments from senior doctors, sometimes even unrelated to professional practice.
For some junior doctors, having closeness or even kinship with consultants or professors is a privilege that prevents them from bullying.
According to the confessions of several junior doctors, colleagues from certain alma mater also often find it easier than doctors from other alma mater.
Regarding the alleged bullying, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Dr. Slamet Budiarto said he would take firm action if there was bullying against medical students, including specialists.
The behavior is judged to violate the medical code of ethics.
“So we appeal to educational institutions that organize specialists, to carry out supervision and guidance during the implementation of education, especially specialist education whether there is bullying and others,” said Dr. Slamet.
