Jacob Blake, a black man who was shot seven times by a white policeman in the US state of Wisconsin last month, said in a video posted on the internet that he was in constant pain.
Blake is now paralyzed from the waist down.
The 29-year-old was shot in the back when he was arrested by police.
The incident again triggered anti-racism protests and brutal actions by the police in the US.
Violence broke out at a number of protests in Kenosha, the city where Blake was shot and left two people dead.
The investigation into the Blake shooting continues.
Meanwhile, Blake appeared in court last Friday and pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges brought before the shooting.
In a video uploaded to Twitter by his family’s lawyer, Blake talks about the pain he has endured.
“During the 24 hours of illness, there was nothing but pain. Breathing pain, sleeping pain, moving pain, pain when eating,” he said.
“Your life, and not just your life, your feet, something you need to move and advance in life, can be taken from you like this,” he said, snapping his fingers.
The video of the shooting sparked a series of protests in Kenosha, where violence broke out at several points.
Two protesters died amid widespread looting and vandalism. A 17-year-old child has been charged with the death.
