Australia has disbursed AU $ 1.7 billion or the equivalent of IDR 18.2 trillion for about 85 million doses of the Corona virus vaccine (COVID-19) developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.
About 3.8 million doses of these will begin receiving Australia in January 2021, if the vaccine proves successful.
The Prime Minister (PM) of Australia, Scott Morrison, stated that the Corona vaccine would later be given free of charge to Australian citizens.
“There is no guarantee that this vaccine will prove successful, but the agreement puts Australia at the top of the line, if our medical experts give the green light for the vaccine,” said Prime Minister Morrison.
Australia’s Health Minister, Greg Hunt, stated that although vaccinations help save lives, citizens are not required to participate in vaccinations.
It is known that the Corona vaccine made by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca has now entered phase 3 trials, or the final stage of trials.
The University of Oxford and AstraZeneca vaccine candidates are currently in clinical trials in the UK, Brazil and South Africa.
“To date, the vaccine candidate has produced a strong immune response, without safety concerns,” said the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca statements.
According to a Reuters report, the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca’s Corona vaccine candidate AZD1222 is now seen as being at the forefront of the competition to develop a vaccine that is effective in fighting the Coronavirus.
