The rape case has shocked India again.
This time the victim of this crime is an 86 year old grandmother in the capital Delhi.
“The victim was waiting for a delivery from the milkman outside her house on Monday (September 7) evening when the perpetrator approached her,” said Swati Maliwal, director of the Delhi Commission for Women.
“The perpetrator said that the milkman did not come and offered to take the victim to the milk collection point,” said Maliwal.
The grandmother believed the perpetrator’s story, said Maliwal.
On the way, on a farm, the perpetrator raped the victim.
The grandmother was rescued by residents who happened to be passing by, who heard her cry.
The residents also arrested the perpetrator, who was then handed over to the local police.
Maliwal met the victim the next day, who she described as being in dire condition.
“Her face and body are bruised … she said she had vaginal bleeding. She was very traumatized by what happened to her,” said Maliwal.
She urged that the perpetrator of rape be put to death.
Rape has been the topic of conversation in India since the gang rapes on a bus in 2012.
Rape and sexual crimes have been the nation’s talk since December 2012, when a 23-year-old student was gang-raped on a bus in Delhi.
