Eight members of the UN Security Council are pressing for Myanmar to involve Rohingya in the upcoming elections.
The announcement was made public after the UN Security Council held a closed virtual meeting signed by 8 countries.
Reported by AFP on Saturday (12 September 2020) the eight member countries are Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Tunisia, Britain and the United States.
“The elections on November 8 are a significant milestone in the transition of Myanmar, which has been supported by the international community with funding and technical expertise,” he added.
They underlined that commitment to ensure individuals from all communities including Rohingya can participate.
In addition, they also expressed concern about the continuing clashes in Myanmar’s Rakhine and Chin States and united “immediately cease hostilities”.
