To reduce the spread of coronavirus in New York City, the Big Apple shut down everything from museums to movie theatres.
According to a new study, from March through June the school closures and stay-at-home measures reduced contact rates across the city and contributed to a 70% reduction in the spread of COVID-19.
And the same statement also wrote by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, with the use of face coverings contributed an additional 7% reduction.
And for those aged 65 and older, it can reduction of almost 20%.
Jeffrey Shaman, senior author and professor of environmental health sciences at Columbia Mailman School said that by improving the effective use of face coverings, especially among younger people, would significantly mitigate the risk of a resurgence in COVID-19 infections.
The study also estimated that lockdowns reduced COVID-19 transmission in Italy up to 45% in France up to 77% and 58% in Wuhan, China.
