During the Mask Patrol operation, the Jakarta Thousand Islands Police found five dead bodies inside the freezer of a fishing boat that saved inside the freezer of KM Starindo Jaya Maju IV.
The corpse was found on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020.
Adj. Sr. Comr. Morry Ermond, the Thousand Islands Resort Police chief, said at that time the officers were patrolling a number of fishing vessels.
“Our officers were patrolling to see if the crew onboard wore masks properly. And also handing out free masks to fishermen. Our suspicion arose when the officers looked at the passenger manifest at KM Starindo Jaya Maju IV. “
At that time, the passenger manifest listed did not match the number of masks that the police handed out to the crew.
From the investigation, the captain and the rest of the crew member said that five people had died.
“They said that five bodies were stored in the freezer.”
The dead bodies were then taken to the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta for autopsy. The captain and other crew members are still being questioned by authorities. Morry said he will wait for the post mortem report.
