Although doctor saying that his life only a few hours, a baby without face has celebrated his first birthday this month.
The unfaced baby named Rodrigo was born without eyes, nose, and part of his skull in the city of Setubal, in the south-western Portuguese Lisbon metropolitan area.
Doctor says that the life expectancy for baby Rodrigo was expected to be very little. But, he can surviving up until now, Rodrigo has now celebrated his first birthday.
For his case, it led to the criminal investigation against the doctor who controlled the mother’s pregnancy. Doctor who in charge of the gestation process, not noticing the condition of their child, because the obstetrician insisting that the foetus was fine and did not present any abnormality in the ultrasound tests.
He was born in the Setubal Hospital Centre, without face.His parents have been guaranteed 24-hour support and a paediatric palliative care team visits the baby so that he can maintain his stability.
An investigation opened to determine if there was medical negligence during the birth of the baby. The doctor was still working, despite having four open disciplinary processes. He was suspended from duty in April 2019.
