Despite a recommendation that urged a pregnant woman undergo a cesarean section, but the 26-year-old mum give birth naturally after the medics forced her to have birth naturally in Brazil.
As result, a newborn baby’s head fell on the floor after it was torn from its body during a botched childbirth.
The horrific incident took place at the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital in the city of Belem, in the northern Brazilian state of Para, on Friday.
After the decapitation, the medics had to surgically remove the rest of the baby from her body, while the mum was sedated.
Before the incident, the woman’s friend who had accompanied her to the hospital told relatives and police that she had advised numerous times that her pal could not undergo a natural birth due to foetal health problems, but professionals at the hospital made her give birth naturally.
As cited News24xx.com from local reports, the hospital where the baby was born is under investigation.
According to a police report, the woman waited for more than three hours before being taken to the delivery room to give birth naturally, and at that time, she was eight months’ pregnant and she had arrived at the hospital by ambulance at around 6am.
The woman’s friend, Amanda Vieira, told police that the delivery room was full of people at the time who witnessed the horrific birth, then her friend was sedated before being operated on to remove the rest of the baby’s body.
The governor Helder Barbalho called for the sacking of the medics involved in the birth and for the police to fast-track the investigation.
The hospital released a statement expressing regret at what happened.
The investigation is ongoing.
