Diego Maradona was taken to a hospital in La Plata on Monday after a blood clot found on his brain.
The football legend was taken to hospital, about an hour and a half drive away from the capital Buenas Aires and getting a successful operation.
The doctor revealed that a serious problem has detected when a blood clot was discovered in his brain.
A subdural hematoma was detected during a CT scan on Tuesday and he had to go into surgery.
As cited News24xx.com from El Destape, the operation was a success and he is now resting.
Dr. Leopoldo Luque, who led the team that operated on Maradona, said: “The operation lasted one hour and 20 minutes, and the edema could be evacuated. Diego is awake, he is very well. He has a small drain that we are going to remove tomorrow. He tolerated the surgery very well and is very well.”
Maradona was transferred to a clinic in Olivos for the procedure, which could have lasted for up to six hours.
Maradona is revered as a legend in Argentina for his role in leading the country to World Cup glory in 1986. His career spans periods at Barcelona, Sevilla, and River Plate but he is perhaps best remembered for his antics at Napoli at club level.
In 2005 he underwent gastric bypass surgery to help in his battle with weight, before undergoing the same procedure again in 2015.
He was also admitted to hospital in January 2019 with internal bleeding in the stomach.
