On September 3, 2014, a girl group Ladies’ Code had a fatal accident on their way back to Seoul after attending an out-of-town event. Member EunB died at the scene, while member RiSe passed away on September 7 after falling into a coma for 4 days.
Six years have passed since the accident, the three remaining members of Ladies’ Code, Sojung, Ashley, and Zuny finally opened their voices for the first time.
Appearing on Channel A’s program “Eye Contact”, the three members revealed the following 8 facts regarding the chronology of the accident to the impact they still feel.
- The accident happened only moments after the Ladies’ Code gave Sojung a birthday surprise
September 3 is Sojung’s new birthday. Shortly before the deadly accident occurred, Ladies’ Code gave a surprise in the form of a birthday cake and a letter to Sojung.
Sojung shared, “It was raining. On the way, we stopped at the rest area. When I got back to the car after going to the toilet, the four members gave me a surprise birthday cake made of chocopie and decorated with candles.”
With tears in his eyes, Sojung continued, “They sang and apologized for the simple surprise. I said it was okay because we were busy. Then we continued our journey. I was so tired that I fell asleep in the car. To be honest, that’s my last memory. After it’s possible that I was taken to the hospital. “
- Zuny and Ashley witnessed the conditions after the accident
As soon as the accident occurred, only members Zuny and Ashley, as well as a manager who survived were conscious with several body injuries, while members Sojung and RiSe were already unconscious and EunB had died on the spot. Zuny and Ashley admitted they couldn’t stop panicking when they saw the members’ condition.
Being a living witness to the tragic accident that took the lives of two close friends certainly left a heavy trauma in the hearts of Zuny and Ashley. Sojung also admitted that the trauma for Zuny and Ashley must have been heavier than he felt. “They saw everything, so the condition at that time must remain in their memory,” said Sojung.

She continued, “I also became afraid of the dark. There should be light even if only a little. I was afraid to sleep because I had to close my eyes. Everything was very difficult.”

It was not easy for Sojung, Ashley, and Zuny to discuss the accident. The three of them even admitted that it was easier for them to pour out trauma on family members than fellow Ladies’ Code members because they realized that all members felt the same trauma burden. - It is difficult for Ladies’ Code to continue activities with a 3 person formation
Sojung, Ashley, and Zuny are still continuing Ladies’ Code activities to this day. But apparently behind the stunning performance on stage, there was a sense of the burden they felt because of the departure of RiSe and EunB.
Ashley said, “It was very difficult not to feel the absence of RiSe and EunB. It was difficult for me to appear on stage without the two of them. I didn’t want to do it, and I was scared too. At first, I wanted to run away.”
Meanwhile, Sojung shared the moment when the three members recorded a song for the first time since RiSe and EunB left.
She said, “On the way in the car after the recording, we didn’t talk to each other. We were just staring at the window in different directions. My heart ached a lot. I didn’t want to do it, but we had to. When I turned to the side it was Ashley. also cry with the same expression as me. “

“We hope you can feel a little happier on your birthday, without feeling a burden on your heart. EunB and RiSe would also like to see you happy,” said Ashley to Sojung.

At the end of the event, Sojung refused Zuny and Ashley’s request to surprise her on her birthday. “To be honest, I’m not ready. If you ask me someday in the future, I will reconsider,” he said.
