The 2021 Coachella music festival has been canceled as the world struggles to contain and control the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The major music event – notably popular with influencers and reality stars – had been due to go ahead over two weekends in April in Riverside County in the Golden State.
But now the festival has been dropped for the 2021 season following health advice in the local area.
While the Stagecoach music festival – a country music event that was also due to take place on the same site as Coachella in California in April – has also been ditched as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to rage.
The public health officer for Riverside County, Dr. Cameron Kaiser, explained the reasoning behind canceling the 2021 festivals.
He said in a public health order: “If Covid-19 were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the nature of the venue would make it infeasible, if not impossible, to track those who may be placed at risk.”
Dr. Kaiser added: “We look forward to when the events may return.”
Last year the Coachella festival was postponed – before being ultimately canceled – due to the pandemic.
The event – which had been due to be headlined by Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, and Rage Against the Machine – was moved from April to October.
But both dates were ultimately canceled as the virus continued to spread wildly in the USA.
Coachella usually attracts 250,000 attendees – the 2021 event had been due to take place between April 9 and April 18.
While Stagecoach draws more than 70,000 country music fans.
