For the second time, the leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained in the early-morning raids.
National League for Democracy (NLD) Party spokesman Myo Nyunt said that apart from Suu Kyi, Myo Nyunt said President Win Myint and other leaders had also been detained.
A number of senior figures from the NLD party were also arrested.
Initially, the Myanmar Parliament was scheduled to become active on Monday, February 1 local time, after the November 2020 election which was won by the NLD, defeating pro-military parties.
Last weekend, the Myanmar military emphasized that it would protect and obey the constitution, as well as act according to the law regarding allegations of fraud in the Mynamar elections on November 8.
In the election, the NLD party celebrated 346 parliamentary seats or more than 50 percent of the total seats.
However, the military accused a lot of fraud, asking for an investigation into the Election Commission and verifying voter data. This raised fears of a coup.
Myanmar’s electoral commission has rejected accusations by the military of vote-rigging, saying there was no mistake large enough to affect the credibility of the vote.
