A baby boy was airlifted to hospital after he was mauled by a dog in a park in Merseyside on Sunday afternoon. Emergency services were called after the 17-month-old boy was bitten on the leg by the animal while in Marian Gardens.
An air ambulance was called to the scene in order to rush the baby to the hospital as quickly as possible following the vicious attack.
The incident took place in Netherton, Merseyside, on Sunday afternoon at around 1.25 pm while many were out enjoying the park, with the boy himself believed to have been on a swing when the animal attacked.
Police have confirmed that the offending dog was captured at the scene and the animal’s owners are being questioned.
A Merseyside police spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo: “Emergency services were called to reports that a baby had been attacked by a dog in New Park Court on Bridge Lane in Bootle today. At around 1.25 pm police received reports that a 17-month-old baby boy was bitten on the leg by a dog. The baby has been taken to hospital by air ambulance to be treated for a non-life-threatening leg injury. The dog has been seized and its owner will be questioned by police. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
The ECHO reports that some witnesses claimed the boy was playing on a swing when the dog attacked – however, this is yet to be confirmed by police.
One member of the local community has urged dog owners to take better care of their animals.
