A farmers union in the US got a taste of Indonesian humor after its tweet blew up with sex jokes from the archipelago nation thanks to an NSFW translation of an English word.
The National Farmers Union recently posted this photo of an adorable ewe on Twitter, featuring a caption that is a play on the famous words of encouragement Viola Davis’ character said to the little girl she cared for in The Help.
That tweet somehow made it to the Indonesian Twittersphere, with tweeps from the country unable to contain their excitement over the NSFW jokes fodder.
In case you’re not well versed in Indonesian slang, ewe (pronounced ay-weck) means to fornicate.
Yep, cue sex jokes.
“Absolutely agree. We love ewe. Ewe until it burns,” musician Fiersa Besari tweeted in response to NFU’s tweet.
Having learned a new Indonesian slang word, the NFU posted a follow-up tweet containing a quick English lesson for its legion of new Indonesian fans.
Ah, harmless fun on the internet. At least Indonesians were civil about the whole thing.
