Indonesia has many tourist attractions to visit, not all of the beaches, mountains, and oceans. Indonesia also has some exotic, natural caves systems ready to be explored.
Some of these cave tours have been named as the most beautiful caves in South East Asia.
Yogyakarta has a lot of charming tourist attractions to suit all needs.
The city offers a cave adventure by way of Jomblang Cave.
Jomblang, located in Semanu, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, is known as one of the most beautiful vertical caves in Indonesia.
Jomblang Cave, local people call it Goa Jomblang is one of the hundreds of cave complexes in Gunungkidul (40 km from Yogyakarta city) that becomes popular for caving activity.
Jomblang Cave is a unique vertical cave with a dense ancient forest below. The characteristics of the cave which are diametrically 50 m wide with vertical sides varies between 60-80 meters.
Because of its vertical position, those who want to explore are required to use vertical caving equipment, a single rope technique, and trained instructors.
Getting to Goa Jomblang
If you want to go to Goa Jomblang you need to set off early from Yogyakarta.
The best way to get there is by renting a private car. You need to leave Yogyakarta at around 7:00 in the morning (or 6:30 am in the weekend/peak season), because you need to be at Goa Jomblang by 09:45 (and it’s good to get there early because only 25 people a day are allowed to visit. Update 2018: They allowed 75-80 people per day).
It’s super easy to get to Goa Jomblang.
The roads all the way to Goa Jomblang are really good. Well, most of the way.
The last part of the journey is a bit bumpy. The last 200 meters is literally dirt with rock and no tarmac. You wouldn’t believe that there would be something called “Jomblang Resort” at the end of the road.
