During the increase of COVID-19 in the Philippines, new mothers and medical staff face heightened anxiety during the pandemic.
At one of the busiest maternity hospitals in the Philippines, the obstetrics and gynecology ward of a hospital is overcrowded.
One of the hospitals ie at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila, the mothers and newborns squeeze the bed together. But, many mothers don’t even have a place to lie down because the hospital is treating over 570 patients, 181 more than its 408-bed capacity with an average of 50 deliveries a day.
Szarina Pusiquit, 21, who gave birth a few days ago at that hospital said, “I’m scared that I will contract the virus here. I’m also scared for my baby, especially since her immune system is still weak.”
As cited News24xx.com from the data of the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,962 new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines and most of the cases are still in Manila.
And it makes the Philippines has so far accumulated 283,460 cases of COVID-19 and 100 additional COVID-19 deaths.
