The phrase “What Yoongi wants, Yoongi gets.” was created after we noticed that what Yoongi said in the past is slowly becoming true.
The first-ever prediction of his that came true was BTS attending Billboard Music Awards in 2017.
At that time, Yoongi’s song titled ‘Agust D’ from his mixtape which was released in 2016, there are the lyrics “Next up is the Billboard”.
And a year later, these lyrics came true.
Yoongi said during the ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ press conference, “”We heard the anticipation about no.1 on the Billboard 200 Chart but it doesn’t feel real. Of course, we would like to reach no.1 but we don’t want to be attached to the rank.”
Then, BTS with their album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ became the first K-pop group to top the Billboard chart
Back in 2015, Yoongi said that he really wants to achieve the so-called ‘Triple crown’ and also want to get many awards. And in 2017, BTS achieved Triple Crown on Music Bank with DNA.
For those who don’t know, Triple Crown is when a K-pop group’s song gets #1 on all three of Korea’s major music shows: MCountdown, Music Bank, and Inkigayo.
In 2017, Liam asked them If there is the next step for BTS and Yoongi immediately said: “Billboard stage. We want to perform in Billboard Music Awards.”
A year later, in May 2018, BTS got the chance to perform at the BBMAs. They were the first K-pop group to perform at American award shows. It was also the debut stage for their ‘LY: Tear’ album.
During the “Love Yourself: Tear” press conference Yoongi also mentioned that they want to became the most influential artist in the world.
After a few months, they became the ambassadors of Korean K-pop. They met the president of Korea AND in September 2018.
They also received “The Order of Cultural Merit” medal. They are the first idol group and youngest ever recipient of The Order of Cultural Merit medal for outstanding contributions to Korean culture.
BTS’s 2nd anniversary, Jin asked Yoongi: “Do you have a wish, Suga?”
Yoongi said: “I really want to perform at a bigger venue like the Seoul Olympic Stadium.”
This stadium is one of the biggest venues in Korea. It has 35 000 – 120 000 seats. They all laughed at Yoongi’s dream, Yoongi laughed too.
A few years later, they held not 1 but 2 shows in that exact same Seoul stadium during their ‘Love Yourself Tour’.
And also, their album ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ was nominated in the ‘Best Recording Package’ category. The album was nominated alongside HuskyFox.
BTS became the first-ever K-pop group to attend Grammy and they also got the chance to present an award.
