The movement of 300 people to the upscale neighborhood of the Upper West Side created a lot of complaints and threats of lawsuits.
The homeless people will stay at the Hotel Lucerne after moving.
The transfer was carried out in an effort to curb the spread of the corona virus.
In all, thousands of homeless men and women have been stationed in hotels around the city.
But the decision was not welcomed by the Upper West Side.
In a private Facebook group – Upper West Siders for Safer Streets – many commentators said that the men threatened pedestrians and urinated and defecated in the street, and that they used and sold drugs in the open.
Some residents formed the non-profit organization, the West Side Community Organization, and hired a lawyer and former deputy mayor, Randy Mastro, who threatened to sue the city.
